Xingyi Five-element Sword has contains five major straight sword techniques which predecessors of Xingyi Quan selected after choosing from the many different sword techniques and settling upon those which are the most primary, the most practical and can reflect the style and characteristics of Xingyi the most. This style is summarized on the principles of concision and practicality and on the movements of Pi, Zuan, Beng, Pao, and Heng of Five-element Boxing (Wuxing Quan). Movements of Five-element Sword are simple and unsophisticated, concise, practical, and emphasize strength and skill. Five-element sword positions were designed by making use of footwork, power application and bodywork of Xingyi Quan according to the theory of Xingyi Quan and in combination of the characteristics of sword. All the movements are exercised individually. Each sword technique is used on both the right and left side without any deviation and revocation.

The Interlinked Straight Sword is a routine compiled on the basis of Five-element Sword, according to the routes of Five-element Linked Boxing and in combination of the characteristics of sword techniques. It is a well known form in China. In this instructional video, Xingyi master Di Guoyong explains and demonstates the techniques and form of Xingyi Five-element Sword.
